The winds didn't cooperate, so we didn't move around much, but the aerial view of the valley was spectacular!Īfter landing, while the other's packed the balloon, Frank shared a small continental breakfast and the traditional "champagne" toast (Alcohol is banned on the Reservation, so it was sparkling grape juice). After several stops for trial balloons, and interpretive commentary, they picked their usual spot for take-off near Susie Yazzie's home.Īfter set-up and inflation, we took off for our 1 1/2 hour flight. We got into the van towing the stowed balloon and started off. We were the only two passengers, and we met the crew at 7AM - The pilot Frank (Pueblo), his ground crew/wife Denise (Lakota), and the guide Kwanah (sp?)(Navajo). It was actually easier for us since we spent the night at the View hotel in MV, and the tour leaves from there. Fortunately, the day after was scheduled to be a very light travel day, so we were able to reschedule. It was the middle of monsoon so, while disappointed, we weren't overly surprised. ![]() We called the day before to check on our original reservation and found that the flight had been scrubbed due to weather. Given all that, Monument Valley is a spectacular location, that my wife and I love, and it was worth a splurge! ![]() Let's start with the understandings that hot air balloon rides are expensive, and your ride is weather-dependent.
